As a chess player i didn't have much expectations for a jam chess game, but it is fun. Fast chess is actually very popular on the internet, with blitz, and bullet time controls, and there even are competitions with ridicoulus time on the move.
I would love to play more polished game, with castling, en passant, and maybe a little limit on how fast the player can move, maybe " if you move, you have half a second of cooldown". (it may turn chess into some Crypt of the necrodancer spinoff as i think of it now)
Making a new chess variation is difficult and requires thinking outside of the box, and chess as a Real Time Strategy, instead of Turn Based Strategy is certainly thought of before, but don't give up, perhaps you will figure something new out.
Making chess variants definitely takes some thinking, for me this was a simplification over bennet foddys speed chess with 16 players, i did not implement castling because it makes the game slower and en passent because it doesnt matter in real time,
Most game mechanics are borrowed or thought of before, doesnt make them any less special,
it definitely needs polish in terms of bugs and speed of actions
I get where your going for, but once you realise its just a competiton who can move the pieces quickest its not much fun. Its also misses some moves like castling and en passant, but I guess thats forgiveable for a jam game.
yeah i had to cut some corners, its pretty janky i'm not even checking whether the king is in check, but seemed decently fun to me even without all these things

Cheers.
I love this twist on traditional chess. I'd totally buy this for a few bucks if you added cooldowns on each piece to make the game more strategic :)
Thank you for trying, would you mind rating it
I did, don't worry
